The Dutch 2019 tax return season is started. As of 1 March 2020 you can file your 2019 Dutch personal income tax return with the Dutch tax authorities. Your tax return should be filed before 1 May 2020 ultimately. However, if you file your tax return before 1 April 2020, the Dutch tax authorities guarantees that you will receive an assessment (in Dutch: aanslag) within 3 months. This is beneficial for taxpayers who will receive money back.

Also when you expect to need to pay taxes we advise you to file your tax return before 1 April 2020. This limits the payable amount on tax interest which you need to pay on the outstanding amount.

Of course we also understand that some people are not able to file their tax returns before 1 May 2020 and for those we advise to request for a filing extension. You can either to this yourself via or ask your tax advisor to do this with his special tax number.

Furthermore please be aware of the fact that if you receive so called ‘toeslagen’, that you will need to file a separate tax form to update your income position. Unfortunately the yearly tax return filing is not sufficient in this respect.

If you need any help with filing your 2019 Dutch personal income tax return, than please do not hesitate to contact me by phone, e-mail or via the whatsapp option on our website.
